Guidelines for the Gothic Fiction Story Preface

Preface: n. a preliminary statement in a book by the author detailing its purpose or scope

Your three paragraph preface should be structured as follows:

P1: The purpose and message of your story. What is it all about? What should readers learn from it? To what should they pay special attention?

P2: Why Gothic fiction? What makes the Gothic genre perfect for your story? Why is the literary Gothic the most effective venue for such a story? How does this genre contribute to the meaning of your story?

P3: Which Gothic elements have you used and to what purposes?
